Joint Legal Education Programs & Degree Partnerships

J.D. / LL.M. Degree Partnership with Melbourne Law School

The Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the University of Melbourne Law School (Melbourne) J.D./LL.M. Degree Partnership is the result of an agreement entered into by UBC and Melbourne in 2015. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a J.D. degree from UBC and an LL.M. degree from Melbourne.

Allard Law students will complete the first two and half years of their J.D. degree at UBC and, if admitted by Melbourne, will subsequently attend Melbourne (full-time, covering 12 months start to finish) and complete the LL.M. degree. After successful completion of their final J.D. term through the LL.M. degree program at Melbourne, UBC will award them their UBC J.D. degree.  After successful completion of the LL.M. program, Melbourne will award them their Melbourne LL.M. degree.

Students apply by June 1st prior to their 3rd year of JD studies. Questions about the program and its effect on Allard School of Law studies should be directed to Allard School of Law Student Services.

Joint Legal Education Program - University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law

Allard Law is pleased to offer UBC JD students the opportunity to apply to participate in a joint legal education program with the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law. The program offers students the opportunity to extend their legal education and broaden their ability to practice law in another jurisdiction.

Students apply to participate in the program in their second year of law school. Interested students should review the information below, and speak with the Allard School of Law Student Services. Students, prior to register in upper year courses to ensure their degree program meets the joint legal education program requirements.

The following information is for students currently enrolled at the Allard School of Law. Students from Hong Kong interested in participating in the joint program should contact their home school and the Allard School of Law Admissions Office. Applications for the HKU program are due by January 31, 2020.

Students interested in participating in the Hong Kong program are strongly encouraged to speak with the Student Services,  well in advance of making an application.
