Whistleblowing Offices and Other Novel Regulatory Approaches in the Detection, Investigation and Deterrence of Fraudulent Practices

Monday, May 8, 2017 - 16:00 to 18:30

BC Hydro (333 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver)

This seminar, organized by the Centre for Business Law and the Anti-Corruption Law Program at the Allard School of Law will explore recent initiatives in whistleblowing, with particular emphasis on the Ontario Securities Commission’s (OSC’s) Whistleblower Program, which came into effect in July 2016. Like its counterpart in the US, the OSC Whistleblower Program seeks to encourage the reporting of serious securities-related misconduct. Keynote speaker Heidi Franken, Chief, Office of the Whistleblower and Acting Deputy Director, Enforcement Branch at Ontario Securities Commission, will discuss the implementation of the program, including its origins and the early experience of this OSC initiative. A panel of discussants will respond to the concepts and issues raised by the keynote speaker. For more information, please see the poster.

Attendees eligible for 2 CPD credits.

No cost to attend but registration required. Please RSVP to cblassistant@allard.ubc.ca
